Crowns and Bridges

Crown and Bridge - Madison & New Haven, CT“My teeth need help.”

For patients who have teeth that are damaged, decayed or missing, crown and bridge therapy can help restore the function and appearance of their smiles. Since 1978, Dr. Alan P. Friedler has restored thousands of smiles using crown and bridge techniques tailored to each patient’s needs. Dr. Friedler has two convenient locations in Madison and New Haven, Connecticut.

What Is A Cerec Crown?

You might ask why you can’t have a filling instead of a crown. Because when there is more filling than tooth, it’s time for a crown, which can last a long time and provide a more durable chewing surface than a standard filling.

A crown is a tooth covering, usually made from metal, porcelain or both. Crowns are designed to restore a single damaged tooth back to original form and function. They are used primarily to replace old, broken fillings or teeth that have been fractured or chipped, as well as cosmetically to improve your smile’s appearance. Crowns are also necessary to cover teeth that have been saved by root canal therapy.

CEREC – To create your new crown Dr. Friedler uses his amazing CEREC MCXL, a high-tech tool that enables him to create tooth-colored ceramic crowns right in his office in about 10 minutes. With CEREC there are no multiple office visits, no messy impressions, no temporary crowns, fewer injections, less drilling and less time required from your hectic schedule. Which means with CEREC, Dr. Friedler can enhance your smile with a durable natural-looking crown in a single visit with far less hassle than you would ever have imagined possible!

What Is A Bridge?

A bridge is a prosthesis that spans the distance between a missing tooth or teeth and is anchored to the remaining teeth on either side. These teeth are usually covered with crowns that hold the bridge securely in place.

Dr. Friedler will prepare your bridge using models to assess the best way to accomplish the procedure. Once he has determined what is right for you, the teeth that will be used to attach your bridge are reshaped, from which impressions are taken and then sent to our dental technician.

While your permanent bridge is being fashioned, Dr. Friedler will cement a temporary bridge in place for you to wear to protect your teeth and gums. On your next visit, he will remove the temporary bridge. He’ll then place your permanent bridge, checking and adjusting for any bite discrepancies. When Dr. Friedler is satisfied that your new bridge is functioning properly he will then cement it to your teeth.
